Back in July 6th 2010, I decided that it would be possible to put Ubuntu linux on Nexus One since there were already numerous Debian ports to G1 Phone and Ubuntu is Debian-based.
Why are you doing this?
I think being able to run Linux operating systems on Android brings a new level of possibilities never imagined before.
For example, can you imagine in 20 years that over 50% of web servers in the world running off these old Android smartphones that run linux? It’s certainly possible at the pace our technology is developing.
My goal is to put various different Linux operating systems running on Android. I am specifically talking about Chrooted Linux OS on Android. We could replace Android with Linux completely but then you wouldn’t be able to use your Android phone as a phone anymore.
Bringing linux apps to Android brings a ton of more free software to existing Android platform. If we can figure out a way to run Ubuntu in the background while Android runs super fast, then we can essentially double the capacity and capabilities of Android. For example, run a web server off your Android device or maybe run an automated home security system, all integrated with Android/Linux services.
This is just a site I started because it interests me. Please feel free to subscribe to our e-mail list so you can stay updated on my latest Android Linux adventures.
